Freddy Lafage

If you live in Maine you ought to come and see this show! Even if you don't live in Maine you should come and see this show, but let's be realistic. This is the work of Freddy Lafage, a Maine artist, and the show is at the Perimeter Gallery in Belfast, which is also Chase's Daily...my favorite restaurant. You have until February 26th to see this work. I can't find a website for him, but he does show regularly here as I think he is part of the family who own Chase's.

Those are stunning! I wish I could find more info about him. How much are his pieces and what are the sizes? I love the eccentric composition, the tension they create.

As I recall the prices for the small ones are close to $500/$700. The two on the bottom are large, maybe 48" wide. The others are small, The ones on top are about 12" wide. The framed ones in the middle are about 8" wide. I love that red castle-ey looking on, and I think it's $700. I have never been able to find out much about him, but he's probably eating at the table next to me! I think he is married to one of the Chase daughters who is a wonderful painter in her own right...Megan Chase. The restaurant and gallery are an amazing place. You should see the framers market they put on every day of the growing season! I'll do a more comprehensive post on them sometime, but I have several posts about Chase's showing the produce and the art.

Hi Lari, you are right about Freddie-his work is fantastic-loved seeing these at Chase's, and his wife Megan is a great painter too- I saw a show of hers at the UMMA in Bangor a few years ago. They work so much in their gardens and restaurant during the summer months that they only get to paint in the winter. I adore his work- the smaller pieces are so intimate and so vast at the same time. Thanks for sharing!
