Twenty-four year old Dai Haifei, a recent architecture school graduate, built this egg-shaped mobile home as a response to the rising cost of rent in Beijing. It's 6' high, is on 2 wheels, is made of bamboo splints and sacks of grass seed that grow continually to provide insulation. It even has a solar panel to power his lamp. He lived in this structure for 2 months on the street. How's that for taking care of yourself?! You can see more pictures here.

Weaving with Paint

Ever since working on the Boro-inspired drawings I've been exploring the idea of making paper look like fabric. With the Boro drawings I folded and sanded the paper to soften it and make it look like a well-loved garment. The next leap I made was to make a patchwork painting with the waves and dots from a previous theme. Then I added liquified paint from squeeze bottles to create a "weave" with paint. I plan to keep going with different layers of dots and weaves. The drawings on the bottom are daily ones from the drawing project I am still doing.
