Artist Anne Truitt wrote Daybook, which is a favorite of mine on the process of making art and balancing that with real life. There is one quote from that book that I think of often, and it guides my work. It is: "I would be a fool to sacrifice joy to fun." Many times people talk about making art as "fun", but that is not my experience. I experience joy. Sometimes. And that is very different from fun. And I think that's what Truitt was teaching. These are works on paper by Truitt that I grabbed via Little Paper Planes. You can go over here to Anne Truitt's website to see more of her work.

You are the only other artist I've met who knows about Anne Truitt's work. I have read all three of her books over and over. I discovered her work in DC back in 1989 and her words have inspired me many, many times since. Thanks for sharing!
Isn't she fabulous?
