Layers5

These are the fifth pieces from the Layers project I am working on with Erika. She made her piece (top ones here) on top of her first offering, using my drop shapes to respond to. In my work I was responding to the colors she has been using and the "taco" shapes of her last offering. I wanted to return to drawing and collage as I had done in my first offering. We were beginning to notice how the work was driving us in a certain direction, so I think these pieces were our reaction to that...to try to open it up a bit more.

Visiting Marston House

Here is little Wiscasset, Maine we have many wonderful little shops. This is Marston House, owned by Sharon and Paul, who spend half the year in France collecting things to bring back here. Sharon is a genius at finding and arranging these things that have an all-of-a-piece character. Her eye is very specific and practiced, and makes a visit to the shop inspiring.

Layers4

Here is the next installment of the Layers project Erika and I are working on together. My piece took off from Erika's use of the slits she made in the paper on her last offering. I retained my drop-like shapes in watercolor, and stood them up in the paper using the slits. Erika (top piece) will be sending me some words about her process, which I will post here.
