This is the work of Barbara Gilhooly, an American artist, who works on paper, wood panels, and makes wire sculptures. Her website is
here. She also has a Flickr stream
here. If you already know her work then just go and revisit her site for the pure joy of rolling around in all that color and pattern. I like her artist's statement because she describes in detail how she makes her work. I am getting more and more interested in the purity of creating a beautiful surface in my own work, so I relate to this approach. I was reading Katherine Kuh's
The Artist's Voice yesterday, and was interested to read Georgia O'Keeffe's comment that she was influenced by Arthur Dow because his one dominating idea was "to fill a space in a beautiful way". I think making art can be that simple. And isn't that a relief.
OMG, I love Barbara's work as well, isn't it amazing? Thanks for writing about it and reminding me of how great she is!
